All children in Key Stage 1 (Reception, Year 1, and Year 2) are entitled to receive a free school meal under the government’s Universal Infant Free School Meals scheme. This means that every child in these year groups can enjoy a nutritious lunch at no cost to their family, regardless of household income or circumstances. The aim is to ensure that young children have access to healthy, balanced meals during the school day, helping to support their concentration, energy levels, and overall wellbeing. Families are still encouraged to apply for means-tested free school meals if they are eligible, as this can provide additional funding for the school through the Pupil Premium, which helps to further support children’s learning and development.

For children in Key Stage 2 and above, school meals are not automatically free and are charged at a cost of £3.20 per day. Families who meet certain criteria may still be eligible for means-tested free school meals, but otherwise payment is required via the School Gateway App.
