To support the teaching of reading within school we are using a systematic synthetic phonic scheme called Read, Write Inc. Additional reading schemes used in school, include the Oxford Reading Tree and Project X.
Fairfield Primary School is a Beanstalk school. This is because we work with the Beanstalk charity – a national charity that recruits, vets, trains and supports volunteers who, in turn, provide one-to-one support in primary schools to children who may be falling behind with their reading. We currently have 3 reading helpers who work with pupils in Year 1 and Year 2: they work with pupils twice a week, in 30 minute sessions. Reading helpers will usually work with the same children for three to four terms.
