To support the teaching of reading and phonics within school, we follow the Letter and Sounds guidance. Additional reading schemes are used in school, including Oxford Reading Tree and Project X.
Fairfield Primary School is a Beanstalk school. This is because we work with the Beanstalk charity – a national charity that recruits, vets, trains and supports volunteers who, in turn, provide one-to-one support in primary schools to children who may be falling behind with their reading. We currently have 3 reading helpers who work with pupils in Year 1 and Year 2: they work with pupils twice a week, in 30 minute sessions. Reading helpers will usually work with the same children for three to four terms.
